PERITONEAL DIALYSIS PRODUCTS

In keeping with our tradition of innovative product development, Fresenius Medical Care has once again set a new standard of care in Peritoneal Dialysis. In the past several years, many new product innovations have changed the way both CAPD and APD therapies are delivered.

The recent launch of the stay·safe®* system, a new innovative PD connectology, has made the often difficult task of training patients easy. With a traditional CAPD system, patients need to remember a sequence of clamping and unclamping steps. With stay·safe®, these clamps have been eliminated and replaced with a simple "dial" that does all of the work of the clamps. The patient just turns the dial through the 4 Step process. In addition, once the patient reaches Step #4, a PIN is inserted into the patient's extension set, thereby closing the system prior to disconnect, eliminating the need to mask and wash hands at that point in their treatment.

Newton IQ™, our most advanced cycler for APD, has provided customers with maximum functionality and flexibility. Some of Newton IQ™'s features include: pump-to-drain, effluent visualization and sampling, and 4 liter fill volumes. In addition, the IQcard™ Program offers the ability to evaluate patient compliance with their treatment regimen, and to program a credit-card sized disk to upload the patient's prescription.

Software development for Peritoneal Dialysis has advanced with a Windows version of Pack-PD™. This version makes kinetic modeling as simple as 'point and click'. New graphs and reports provide new tools to better communicate your patient's PD performance.

As part of our product portfolio, FMCNA offers an extensive array of educational support programs. For Pre-ESRD education, the Kidney Options® Program, offers Web Site education, Flip Charts, videos, booklets, recipe cards & newsletters. In addition, the Kidney Options® support tools include Physician presentation materials, a Train-the-Trainer Program, and marketing materials to use with referral sources, such as posters and prescription pads. For educating the peritoneal dialysis patient, the success@home™ program offers a Clinic Tool Kit with Manuals, Flip Charts, Videos, Basic Training Flyers, Procedure Cards, and more.
