Fresenius Medical Care North America is a division of Fresenius Medical Care (NYSE: FMS), the world's largest integrated provider of products and services for individuals undergoing dialysis because of chronic kidney failure, a condition that affects more than 2.1 million individuals worldwide.

Here are bios of our Chief Executive Officer and his leadership team of direct reports.

William Valle, Chief Executive Officer

Bill Valle was appointed Chief Executive Officer at Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA) in January 2017. Prior to this appointment, Bill was Executive Vice President of FMCNA and President of Fresenius Kidney Care (FKC) where he was responsible for the successful management of more than 2,200 outpatient facilities, 1,400 inpatient programs and 800 home dialysis programs across the U.S.

Bill also previously served as President of FMCNA’s Integrated Renal Services where he led the transformation of the organization’s vital business functions into a high-performance renal network that can improve the outcomes and reduce the costs of managing renal disease. These include Fresenius Vascular Care, FreseniusRx, Spectra Laboratories, FKC Business Development, FKC Inpatient Services and FKC Real Estate and Construction Services.

Before joining FMCNA, Bill had 22 years of experience in the dialysis industry, serving in executive roles in sales, marketing and business development and as owner of several private dialysis centers.

Ron Rodgers, President, Fresenius Kidney Care

Ron Rodgers was named Executive Vice President of Fresenius Medical Care North America and President, Fresenius Kidney Care in January 2017. Previously, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer for Fresenius Kidney Care, West Division and Fresenius Vascular Care. Ron joined Fresenius Vascular Care in 2010 when Fresenius Medical Care acquired National Vascular Care, the company he co-founded.

Ron has more than 30 years of experience in general and financial management, including leadership experience in venture-funded startup companies.

Mark Costanzo, President, Fresenius Renal Therapies Group


Mark Costanzo was named as President of Fresenius Medical Care North America’s Renal Therapies Group in January, 2010. He oversees renal products and pharmaceutical operations including sales, marketing, the Renal Research Institute, medical & regulatory affairs, as well as Mexico and Canada operations. Mark joined Fresenius Medical Care in 1990 and has held several positions of increasing responsibility including Vice President, Peritoneal Dialysis Products, and Vice President, Sales & Marketing.

He began his career in the renal industry more than 30 years ago with Baxter International.

William McKinney, President, Integrated Care Group

William McKinney

William McKinney is President of Fresenius Medical Care North America’s Integrated Care Group, which includes Fresenius Health Partners and FreseniusRx.

He joined FMCNA in May of 2014 following Fresenius Medical Care’s acquisition of MedSpring Urgent Care, where he served as Senior Vice President of Infrastructure. Later that year, after being named President of Fresenius Health Partners, he launched FMCNA’s health plan.

William has held senior leadership roles at WellCare Health Plans and TeleTech Holdings and also has consulted for McKinsey & Company. He holds both a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Franklin Maddux, Chief Medical Officer and Executive VP, Clinical and Scientific Affairs


Dr. Franklin W. Maddux is the Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President for Clinical and Scientific Affairs of Fresenius Medical Care North America.

Frank joined the organization in 2009 after Fresenius Medical Care acquired a company he founded, Health IT Services Group, a leading-edge Electronic Health Record (EHR) software company. He additionally founded Specialty Care, a leading provider of perfusion and surgical support services.

Frank has more than 30 years of health care experience, including the practice of nephrology at the Danville (Virginia) Urologic Clinic, where he served as its president from 1995 to 2005.

Frank is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and has served on numerous boards and regional committees involved in technology initiatives, banking and health care.

He received his B.A. degree with High Honors in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University and an M.D. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he completed his internship, residency, chief residency and nephrology fellowship.

Peter E. Gladitsch, Chief Financial Officer

Peter Gladitsch

Peter E. Gladitsch is Chief Financial Officer of Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA). He joined FMCNA from UnitedHealth Group (UHG), where he most recently served as CFO of Optum Complex Care Management, a national provider organization serving the needs of Medicare special needs plans and Medicare-Medicaid dual demonstrations focused on members in skilled nursing facilities. Prior to that role, Peter served as CFO for UHG’s Northeast Region of Community & State, a Medicaid managed care organization. He has also held senior financial roles at Health Net of the Northeast and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, among other companies.

Peter’s record of achievement in the health care industry features a diverse background in both payor and provider organizations, including specific experience in those that manage health care services for special needs populations.

Peter is a CPA and holds a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from New York University and a Bachelor’s in Accounting from St. John’s University.

Brian Silva, Chief Human Resources Officer and Senior Vice President, Administration


Brian Silva is Fresenius Medical Care North America’s (FMCNA) Chief Human Resources Officer and Senior Vice President, Administration. His role is focused on delivering solutions to human capital issues and managing the company’s corporate real estate activities. Brian is also Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). SHRM has a global membership of more than 260,000 professionals in 140 countries and is committed to advancing the Human Resources profession.

Prior to FMCNA, Brian was Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Gentiva Health Services, the country’s leader in home health care. Before Gentiva Health Services, he served as Senior Vice President Human Resources, Administration and Corporate Secretary for Linens N Things, and held senior HR roles at The Guardian Insurance Company and Allstate Insurance. Brian received his M.A. degree from Columbia University in Organizational Psychology and holds a M.S. degree in Human Resources Management from New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). Brian holds his Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification from the Society for Human Resource Management.

Karen Gledhill, Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Karen Gledhill

Karen Gledhill oversees Fresenius Medical Care North America’s law department, which provides legal support to the company in practice areas which include corporate law, clinical research, health care regulatory, litigation, integrated and managed care, securities law, corporate finance, real estate, labor and employment, and FDA regulatory.

Karen joined FMCNA in 2014 after serving as outside counsel to the company for the prior 18 years. She was formerly a shareholder and chair of the health care practice group at the Robinson, Bradshaw law firm in Charlotte, North Carolina. In that role, she represented providers and payers in health care regulatory and transactional matters, with extensive experience in health care mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures. She holds a J.D. From Columbia University where she was a member of the Law Review and a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar, as well as an M.B.A. and B.A. from the University of South Carolina where she was a James F. Byrnes scholar. Karen is recognized as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Ravi Kalathil, Chief Information Officer


Ravi Kalathil has more than 30 years of experience in the development and management of Information Technology and more than 20 years of experience as the company’s top level executive responsible for health care technology, strategy and leadership.

Prior to his focus on health care, he worked at Hughes Aircraft, multiple companies on Wall Street and the SWIFT Worldwide Interbank Consortium. Before joining Fresenius Medical Care, he was with Gambro Healthcare for 9 years, leading both its CIO and CTO functions. From 2001 to 2003, Ravi was Senior Vice President and General Manager at a health care startup venture providing business to business integration, disease management and clinical trials solutions to the payer, provider, pharmaceutical and biotech industries.

Since October 2003, he has been Chief Information Officer at Fresenius Medical Care North America. He has a B.S. in Physics and an MBA and postgraduate degrees and certificates in Computer Science and Management from the University of Colorado and the Sloan School of Management, MIT. He holds multiple engineering patents and has served on the Technical and Industrial Advisory Boards and CIO councils for various technology companies and universities.

Lisa Estrada, Chief Compliance Officer and Senior Vice President

Lisa Estrada is Fresenius Medical Care North America’s (FMCNA) Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer. In this capacity, she oversees the company’s Ethics and Compliance Department which is responsible for managing and implementing a program designed so FMCNA complies with applicable laws, regulations, and established company standards in operating the business.

Lisa joined the company in December 2015 as Vice President and Deputy Chief Compliance Officer and assumed her current rule in October 2016. Previously, Lisa spent 15 years as a private practice attorney specializing in health care regulatory and litigation matters. She was a partner and health care practice group leader at Arent Fox LLP in Washington, D.C. and partner at Foley & Lardner LLP in New York.

Lisa earned a J.D., magna cum laude from George Mason University School of Law and a B.A. in journalism and political science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Brian Gauger, Chief Development Officer


Brian Gauger is Chief Development Officer of Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA) and the Chief Executive Officer of National Cardiovascular Partners.

As Chief Development Officer, he is responsible for corporate mergers and acquisitions across North America, leading scores of successful business development transactions.

In 2017, Brian was named Chief Executive Officer of National Cardiovascular Partners, LLP (NCP), an innovative company that creates, sustains and grows independent, outpatient cardiac catheterization and vascular labs. In that role, Brian is responsible for guiding the organization’s overall direction, strategy and partnership development efforts.

Prior to joining FMCNA, Brian had 22 years of experience in the dialysis industry, serving in executive roles in sales, marketing and business development.

Kim Sonnen, Senior VP, Payor Relations, Government Affairs and Integrated Care


Kim Sonnen leads Fresenius Medical Care North America’s (FMCNA) negotiations with commercial insurers and develops new models for engaging with and developing coordination among government payors, exchange-based plans, risk-bearing provider systems and other new payors.

She plays a leading role in the development of FMCNA’s strategic business operations and has significantly contributed to the growth of the company’s dialysis services business.

Kim joined FMCNA in 2003 as Vice President of Managed Care and Marketing, after serving as Chief Operations Officer of Renaissance Health Care, a renal disease management company. Her previous health care roles included leadership positions with Gambro Healthcare and a consulting organization which she founded.

Angela McClure, Chief Experience Officer

Angela McClure is the Chief Experience Officer for Fresenius Medical Care North America. In this role, she and her team lead the strategy and programs to support the overall experience for employees, patients and their families, partners, physicians and customers. This important work leads to stronger engagement, the delivery of superior quality within a culture of compassionate care and higher performance.

McClure previously served as Senior Vice President of Human Resources. Prior to joining Fresenius Medical Care North America in 2014, she was the head of Human Resources for Physiotherapy Associates, a Select Medical Company, and prior to that served in various Human Resources management roles with Gentiva Health Services, now Kindred Healthcare. McClure graduated cum laude from the University of North Texas with a Bachelors of Science concentrating in management, human resources and organizational behavior.

Cameron Lynch, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs

Cameron Lynch is the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for Fresenius Medical Care North America. In this role, he leads all company interactions with federal, state and local government officials and entities. He oversees a team that interacts daily with policymakers and legislators in Washington D.C. and all fifty state capitols. Cameron has over 20 years of experience working on legislation and public policy in the nation’s capital. Prior to joining FMCNA, he worked for many years in the U.S. Senate as a health policy advisor to three U. S. Senators and served as the executive vice president of the Bipartisan Policy Center. He holds a B.A. in English from Cornell, a J.D. from William & Mary and a MPP from Georgetown.
