The Fresenius Medical Care Foundation was created to raise awareness of kidney disease and transplantation as a lifesaving solution. In the United States, thirty million adults are estimated to have chronic kidney disease—and most aren’t aware of it. More than 726,000 Americans have irreversible kidney failure, or end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and need dialysis or a kidney transplant to survive. Nearly 100,000 people are on the waitlist for a kidney transplant today. Depending on where a patient lives, the average wait time for a kidney transplant can be upwards of 3-7 years. And approximately 20,000 from the waiting list will receive a kidney transplant this year, primarily from the deceased donor pool.
In partnership with the nation’s leading organ transplant organization, Donate Life America, we will bring to market innovations that will profoundly change the kidney donation process. Through the development of the first-ever home testing kit for living donors and the first national, universal living donation registry, we will create a platform that makes it easier to identify living donors and match them to patients in need. Additionally, we will expand the proven Big Ask/Big Give program with the National Kidney Foundation and help them grow the reach and awareness of this impactful program.
Your donation will help us make a real impact in patients’ lives.
