Fresenius Medical Care Foundation

Empowering patients, reaching prospective donors, and mobilizing employees

The Fresenius Medical Care Foundation was created to help the patients, families, and communities most greatly impacted by kidney disease. Today, we are focused on raising awareness of kidney disease and transplantation as a lifesaving solution. By investing in innovative programs and solutions, we can change the trajectory of kidney disease for patients and communities.

The Foundation launched in April 2018 with the goal to raise awareness and provide support to people living with kidney disease. To maximize our impact, the Foundation will first focus on helping patients and their families and friends understand that kidney transplantation is the first choice to replace kidney function in those whose kidney damage has progressed to need for kidney (renal) replacement therapy. From there, using our knowledge and resources, we will help reshape the way potential donors approach kidney organ donation, increasing the number of living donors and eventually improving life for those affected by the disease for generations to come.

Transplant Fund: Advancing Living Donation

The Fresenius Medical Care Foundation is working to ensure every eligible person who needs a kidney receives one. Through partnerships with leading nonprofits like Donate Life America (DLA)The National Kidney Foundation (NKF), and United Network for Organ Sharing, we’re investing in innovations that will profoundly improve the living kidney donation process. Our solutions include:

Improving transportation and logistics for organ donation

Created easier access to living donors through the first national-reaching Donate Life Living Donor Registry

Expanded the NKF’s THE BIG ASK: THE BIG GIVE program

The Foundation also manages donations to the CARES Fund, providing financial assistance to eligible employees impacted by unforeseen disaster or hardship situations. Employees, FMCNA, and others can donate to support the grants made to employees.
