CIGNA, MAJOR DIALYSIS COMPANY PARTNER TO IMPROVE CARE

Cigna is aiming to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for people on dialysis at clinics run by Fresenius Medical Care and others who are covered by Cigna insurance.

If Fresenius Health Partners, the care management arm of the multinational company, is able to reduce overall costs, Cigna and Fresenius will share in the savings. Fresenius cares for approximately 180,000 people throughout the United States, about a third of the total dialysis market.

Although Fresenius Medical Care is one of the big two dialysis chains, Cigna is only responsible for about 1,100 people at their centers.

About 85 percent of all Americans on dialysis are covered by Medicare. The government health program is open to all with end-stage renal disease, even if they are not yet 65.

Fresenius has more than 10 years of experience working to lower the cost of care by improving the management of patients’ chronic illnesses, starting with Medicare.
