After caring for her grandmother, Jaci Ince is inspired to work in a clinic and pursue her nursing degree.
It’s been more than a decade since Jaci Ince’s grandmother passed away, but her influence on Jaci remains strong to this day.
For the last years of her life, her grandma lived with kidney disease and Jaci accompanied her to dialysis treatments. Jaci experienced firsthand the compassionate care provided by the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care Kewanee, and it inspired her to become a certified hemodialysis technician at the same clinic where her grandmother received treatment.
“I was fortunate to be with my grandma through her dialysis journey,” Jaci said. “Because of the amazing care she received, I wanted to do the same for others. I wanted to help them feel cared for and comfortable during their three- to four-hour treatments. I don’t want my patients to be nervous – I want to talk with them and help them with their care.”
Because Jaci was a friendly face at the clinic, she developed relationships with the staff long before they were co-workers. They continue to offer support and encouragement as Jaci hopes to one day return to school to become a dialysis nurse. We recognize the dedication and ambitions of people like Jaci during Nephrology Nurses Week.
“I think my grandma would be happy and proud of my career choices,” Jaci said.
