Why the Novalung System?
The Novalung System's single integrated platform focuses on improving the delivery, duration, and impact of life-saving care. This technology is designed to oxygenate blood, remove CO2, and is a good option for ECMO-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR), patients who need assistance weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), and extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal (ECCO2R).
Safety
Designed to minimize emergent circuit changes
Simplicity
Intuitive user-interface designed to simplify workflow and save time
Portability
Designed to ease transport throughout the hospital
The Novalung System includes the innovative X-Lung™ Kit, which provides extracorporeal gas exchange. The X-Lung™ Kit includes a membrane lung, DP3 pump head, and integrated pressure sensors.
Integrated Pressure Sensors
Designed to provide safety by measuring pressure, enabling circuit diagnosis3
No calibration required.
DP3 Pump
Features diagonal pump design for minimal prime volume
Bore holes in rotor designed to dissipate heat generation
Offers precise control for low- and high-flow delivery
Easy-to-change backup drive included
Membrane Lung
Features x.ellence® heparin coating
designed to provide hemocompatibility
Includes polymethylpentene(PMP) fiber technology
Equipped with pressure sensors
Features Oxygenarator with integrated bubble trap
Designed to Provide You With Safety and Simplicity
Proprietary x.ellence® heparin and albumin coating designed to provide hemocompatibility
DP3 pump with minimal prime volume and precise control during low- and high-flow delivery
Integrated pressure sensors and polymethylpentene (PMP) fiber technology designed for reduced risk of air aspiration, with built-in oxygenator, bubble trap, backup drive, and more
Every component of the Novalung System was engineered to support intensive care unit teams and their patients. Explore the innovative technologies that make this system a true game changer for critical patient care.
Oxygenator
Features x.ellence® heparin coating designed to provide hemocompatibility for long-term applications. Includes polymethylpentene (PMP) fiber technology and line-integrated pressure sensors and bubble trap.
Fresenius Medical Care has been a trusted partner of healthcare providers for years. The Novalung System is intended for patients with acute cardiopulmonary failure requiring veno-venous (VV), veno-arterial (VA), or ECMO-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) and was the first extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) system cleared for >6 hours of therapy.

INDICATIONS FOR USE
The Novalung System is indicated for long-term (>6 hours) respiratory/cardiopulmonary support that provides assisted extracorporeal circulation and physiologic gas exchange (oxygenation and CO2 removal) of the patient's blood in adults with acute respiratory failure or acute cardiopulmonary failure, where other available treatment options have failed, and continued clinical deterioration is expected or the risk of death is imminent. These may include:
Failure to wean from cardiopulmonary bypass following cardiac surgery in adult patients
ECMO-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation in adults
Caution: Federal (US) law restricts these devices to sale by or on the order of a physician.
